Progress Report: Readership Up and Recognition Growing

After six months the DYCV blog is showing signs of long term success:

1. We have hit the 600 readers a month level. This is solid growth for a business blog, which will never reach the readership levels of the larger blogs addressing the needs of a much larger consumer based  marketplace.

2. We recently were shown an article that will soon be run in a publication of a  large professional association (over 300,000 members) recommending their members should encourage their clients to read DYCV Blog regularly.

We appreciate our reader's  interest in the blog and encourage you to do any or all of the following:

1. Recommend us to your friends, peers, and your business networks.
2. Subscribe to the blog to receive it regularly in your inbox. (Just enter your email in the 'subscribe' box on the right side of the screen).

Organizing Your Knowledge

Blog postings are tagged using a set of tags developed by the particular blogger. We have decided to develop our tagging system around the following six areas of related to the activities of a business. Each of these areas will use additional tags to allow for more refined searching as the number of postings grow.

• Leadership provides the vision of the furture and defines the business plan and core values followed to accomplish the vision.
• Marketing is the analysis of your marketplace (industry and customers), the development of strategies and tactics to generate awareness of your company and/or products and to attract customers to your products and services.
• Finance is the cash flow side of your company which includes obtaining funds (equity and debt) and managing the flow of cash into and out of the company.
• Administration is the manner in which you manage your company's systems, people and tangible and intangible resources
• Sales incorporates all the interactions with clients that results in the conversion of leads into buyers.
• Operations includes producing the product or service and delivering on the commitments made in the marketing and sales processes.

Just Another Blog?

Driving Your Company's Value hopefully will not be just another blog.  When we searched the directories for business blogs we were unable to find any blogs that were dedicated to assisting its readers to understand what creates value in a company and how to manage the company to create value.  We discovered a lot of blogs dedicated to specific topics like marketing or customer management, but we could not find any that focused on the a holistic approach to creating value in a company.

Therefore, we are starting our blog with the mission to assist our readers to understand what drives a company's value and to master the business knowledge (literacy) required to take advantage of those drivers of value.

We are two experienced (our children say old) consultants with diversified backgrounds.  We have both been college faculty members, full time business consultants, credentialed business appraisers, involved in technology management, have public accounting firm experience and have either a banking or manufacturing background. Why is "value" important?

There is a profession of Business Appraisers who value business for a lot of reasons, ranging from tax compliance, to transaction support, to financial reporting compliance, to litigation support. In many cases, business owners don't often maximize the benefit of this knowledge...the valuation report may tell the owner what the value is but doesn't tell them in usable terms how it got there, or what drives value in their business. Not that business owners are clueless on the issue; many understand value at some level.

Our goal with this blog is to provide both information and a forum that business owners, advisors to business owners, and students of value can both avail themselves and participate in identifying what drives a company's value.
